TRAUMA INFORMED CREATIVE EXPRESSION

The Healing Arts Method is an approach that integrates creative expression with trauma-informed care and discipleship.

At its core are three elements:

  • Expression – giving voice to experience through the arts

  • Cognition – Prayerfully exploring what has been expressed.

  • Co-creation – building connection and relational skills through the shared creative process.

This method prioritizes a safe space where individuals can explore their stories, engage their creativity, and experience healing within a community.

Mission. Vision.

We gather and equip Christian creatives to engage their communities through trauma-informed expressive arts.

We envision a global community of Christians who provide arts-based, trauma-informed care for the least-reached in their cities.

Healing Art Studios began in 2006 when founder Rebecca Grant completed a Master's degree in Theater focused on trauma recovery. Rebecca’s unique exercises, first used with at-risk foster youth in Missouri, served as the foundation for the method developed alongside Project Rescue trauma-care providers throughout Southeast Asia. For 5 years, Rebecca and her team implemented the Healing Arts Method with over 200 women and children survivors of sexual exploitation.

What started as a tool for Project Rescue team members grew into a method that is now used in many settings— schools, community programs, discipleship groups, and recovery safe houses around the world.

Today, the team of creatives offering healing through Healing Art Studios stretches across five continents and many languages. Our group of trained facilitators offers trauma-informed, creative care in each one’s setting and expertise. And our team—Tyler, Amanda, and Rebecca—is passionate about equipping others to carry this work into communities that need it.
